At first, Assasssin Creed Altair telling figure is a member of the Assassin guild first developed in the Middle East. Diverse mystery surrounding Desmond past uncovered through "time travel" this Animus. Through Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood, Desmond slowly find destiny and responsibility assigned to him through the cycle of life of the ancestors - Ezio Auditore de Firenze. But the mystery does not necessarily stop and just missed. Desmond and Ezio even more involved in things they do not understand.
